K asked:
Does the auto repair have to come from an accident or can it be normal wear and tear (ie brake replacement/sudden leaking head gasket)?

You tell them what you want covered, and they quote you a price for that repair only. Regular routine maintenance is far cheaper.

Depends… what do you mean by “repair”?
If you mean “breakdown”, as in “the waterpump just died” or “you need a new transmission”, it’s definitely separate. Car manufacturer and dealers will gladly sell you extension of their standard bumper-2-bumper warranty… at a nice profit.
And normally they do NOT cover wear-and-tear items such as brakes.

Most of the time the auto insurance companies do body jobs since its the outside body that always takes the most hit. If it involves anything deeper than that then it may be considered a total loss.
